Return of cremated remains

Cremated remains which are not to be interred or strewn within the crematorium grounds will be collected by or returned to the funeral director.

South Lincolnshire Crematorium is unable to provide long term storage for cremated remains and so funeral directors are asked to collect the cremated remains no more than one month following the cremation date. You should discuss your requirements for the appropriate container for the cremated remains with your funeral director.

If you are the original applicant and you choose to collect the cremated remains directly from the crematorium, please let your funeral director know. In such cases, the remains will only be released to the person who applied for the cremation.

If remains are collected by someone other than the original applicant, excluding the funeral director, then a signed letter of authorisation is required from the original applicant. The person collecting should also show proof of identity i.e. photo driving licence or current passport.
